Foodwise
(formerly CUESA)
In 2018, I was brought in by Christie Rixford at Supernatural Design to overhaul the east arcade of San Francisco’s legendary Ferry Building. The facade consisted of 12 8’x8’ large scale prints, featuring portraits of key players in the Northern California agricultural scene by Anne Hamersky. We worked closely with Foodwise, (formerly known as CUESA, Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture) the nonprofit organization centered on sustainable food systems and education.
The final product is meant to bring a vibrant new treatment to the Ferry Building and the weekly farmers’ market backdrop, while highlighting the various change makers within the agricultural scene. The color application and type treatment is meant to emphasize each portrait in the photo, while bringing their various disciplines and actions to the forefront with the bold type treatment. Christie provided the initial art direction and I applied it to the final twelve portraits to create a unified and distinct series.
